Frequently Asked Questions

Why opt for simming pool demolition

Although pools are popular, they can quickly become unmanageable and expensive. Some of the most common reasons pool owners choose swimming pool removal include:

Pools are risky – Whether you own pets, have kids, or are worried about the risks pools pose to the disabled, pools can be dangerous and even deadly amenities that don’t suit everyone’s lifestyle.

Pools take up space – Even if you love pools, having one that takes up most of your outdoor space can be frustrating. Pool demolition can free up a lot of yard space for landscaping and new construction.

Pools are expensive – Whether you want to cut down on your gas, water or electric bills, or hate the constant maintenance your pool requires, pool demolition can be a quick fix for constant upkeep expenses weighing on your budget.

Pools can drive away buyers – If you’re planning on selling your home, pool demolition may be the right option if your potential buyers aren’t likely to want or need it in their property.

How much does it cost to remove a pool?

Pool removal costs vary greatly depending on several factors:

- Size

- Shape

- Type of pool

- Materials used in construction

- Depth

- Whether you opt for a full or partial removal

- Local regulations on demolition, debris removal, and compaction requirements

On average, a full pool demolition in California costs between $15,000 and $25,000. Although we can give you an estimate over the phone, we’d need to conduct an in-person inspection to provide an accurate quote. This price can also depend on the geo-technical report in some counties/cities.

How does full pool removal work?

A full pool demolition begins with a pool demolition contractor visiting your property to inspect the pool, assess what needs to be done to completely remove the structure, and provide you with a quote for how much it will cost. This first inspection also allows us to draw up a demolition plan and give you a rough timeline of how long the job will take.

Once we’ve agreed on a timeline, we’ll source the necessary permits for the pool demolition before beginning the physical work.

The actual pool demolition process involves the followings steps:

1. Carrying out the proper drainage process, whether this means draining the water to the sewer system or into the storm drain.

2. Removing any pool equipment including filters, pumps, and water features.

3. A full demolition involves the shell of the pool and any concrete decking and hauling it to the right disposal site. A partial demolition

typically involves making holes in the bottom of the pool and removing the pool wall down to 1 ½ feet below grade.

4. Capping all necessary water, gas and electric lines.

5. Removing any remaining electrical or plumbing components.

6. Filling the hole with proper soil for landscaping or future construction.

7. Compacting the soil to 90% to ensure it offers a stable foundation for future construction.

What is partial pool removal?

Unlike full pool removal services, our partial pool demolition is suitable for land on which you only want to landscape, not carry out construction. During partial pool demolition, we follow the same process as full pool demolition, except for a few key differences.

Instead of pulling out the entire pool shell, we fill the floor of the pool with gravel before demolishing the walls and capping utility connections. Once this is done we fill the pool with clean fill soil before compacting the ground ready for gardening.

Partial pool removal reduces the cost of pool demolition as long as you aren’t planning on selling or building onto the pool site for the next three to five years.

How long does a pool demolition take?

On average, a pool demolition job takes one week to finish the job.

What types of pools can be removed?

We can handle nearly any type of pool removal, including:

- In-ground pools

- Above-ground pool

- Indoor pools

- Vinyl, fiberglass, and gunite pools

Can I DIY my pool demolition?

Although you certainly can decide to remove your pool yourself, we recommend against it. The state of California carefully regulates pool demolitions and your pool will have to meet strict demolition and fill requirements to pass inspection. Acquiring the right permits, geo-technical reports, capping utilities properly, and preventing damage to surrounding structures are all pool removal services our professional pool demolition contractors are experts at.

By working with a professional company employing pool demolition contractors, you can ensure your filled pool is safe and ready for construction, landscaping, and eventual sale in the future.
